About Us
Mcfly's Center St. Tavern, located at 45th & Center St. in Omaha, NE was established in 1987 by a couple of guys named Glenn Moberg & Todd Trofholz. The couple known for their basketball abilities were set on making a go of the place. Glen a very tall Irish man and Todd an average sized guy who could "fly" with the basketball derived the name "Mcfly's." They approached the former proprietor Bill Sullivan of the 103 Lounge and negotiations began, Sullivan not wanting to give up serving his patrons but knew it was time to relinquish some of the ownership duties, agreed to sell the bar as long as his status as a bartender would remain! So Mcfly's was born!
Ten years later in 1997 brothers Mark & Jeff Lampe came along. Jeff was working as an Omaha firefighter and Mark was working for a food service company. The two brothers were familiar with Mcfly's as they frequented it often. Seeing time for a change and feeling they could retain the support of the neighborhood that they grew up in, the brothers took the helm.
Not much changed at first! The name "Mcfly's" remained, Bill Sullivan remained along with the rest of the staff. But soon after brother Mark was hired on to the Omaha Fire Dept. and the brothers decided to make their neighborhood place a tribute to their fellow firefighters.
With much help from fellow firemen, construction began and the bar received a much needed facelift, to include a new cooler & beer tap made out of a fire hydrant that could house 8 cold flavors on tap! Firefighting tools, pictures, and memorabilia began to cover the walls. Lights and a real fire engine siren were installed. Fellow fireman P.J. Driscoll even added to the place with his massive carving of a fireman known as "Gus" who takes watch over the bar on rare occasions that the brothers are not there.
The kitchen was revamped and new items were added to the menu. Already known for the burgers, Pizza and 911 Hot Wings became popular.
Today the bar is known as a popular neighborhood place that anyone on a budget can afford. Known for their "Special Events" it is not unusual to catch a Party such as Husker Football games, pub crawls, poker runs, Rocky Mt. Oyster nights, golf tourneys, and their Nationally known C.W.S. (College World Series) Party, to name a few.
So if your in the neighborhood surly stop in and see the boys, they'll be happy to show you around and appreciate your interest.
Our suggestion to you? "Try the Fly!"
